EXPLORE LINZ: YOUR ULTIMATE LOCAL GUIDE FOR THE TOP FOOD PLACES, BEST COFFEE SPOTS & THINGS TO DO
“In Linz beginnt’s” - that’s what I’ve always heard as growing up in Upper Austria’s capital. Although Linz is often overshadowed by Vienna or Salzburg when it comes to travel plans, the third biggest city of Austria has become really charming in the last few years. From a diverse culinary scene with many cozy coffee shops and brunch spots to amazing dinner locations and a wide number of things to do - Linz perfectly blends tradition and modern flair. F
As I was born in Linz, I’ve had years to explore the city, uncovering the best places to grab brunch, sip expertly brewed coffee, or indulge in a memorable dinner. Whether you’re here for a weekend getaway or just passing through (maybe to the Salzkammergut, one of my favorite areas in Austria?), my guide will lead you to the hidden gems and must-try spots.
I also realized I often haven’t taken pictures of the places when I went there, so please be patient as more content will be uploaded to the blog post.
You can find all my tips for Linz also in this dedicated Google Maps list here.
Lots of love,
Magda
where to go for (vegan) breakfast, brunch & coffee
Friedlieb und Töchter: one of my fav places for a delicious coffee and their homemade cakes. In summer it’s also super lovely to sit outside and simply enjoy the view on the stunning historical buildings in the Altstadt.
Gerberei: this small and cozy cafe shall be high on your list, when you’re in Linz. Make sure to try their homemade cakes, which they make every day & check their opening hours (as they’re “only” open from Wednesday onwards)
Mariendom Cafe: a must visit coffee shop in front of the historical Mariendom, over 100 years old and the second highest church in Austria (if you count the cross in, it’s actually the highest, but don’t tell Viennese people).
Bäckerei Brandl: a visit to Linz wouldn’t be complete without the visit at this famous bakery, which is known for their handmade high quality bread and baked goods such as the Handsemmerl, Mohnflesser, (my fav) Feuerzelten, Kipferl and Brioche. You can also enjoy tasty brunch in their cafe in the Bismarckstraße.

Schlosscafe
For me the best place for a delicious dinner in summer with a breathtaking view over the Danube. They also have a special BBQ menu - you need to reserve a table in advance and shouldn’t miss to watch the sunset from there.
